International Non-Violence day to be celebrated in the House of the Cinema
![]() On 2 October, 2009, in observance of the International Non-Violence Day, the East European Development Institute (EEDI) with support from the Embassy of the Republic of India in Ukraine presents Mahatma Gandhi’s works translated into Ukrainian language and a film “Gandhi” produced in 1982 by the legendary Sir Richard Attenborough that has received eight Academy Awards. The film (in English language) will be shown free of charge. This event will take place at 18:00 hrs, at the House of the Cinema (address – Saksahanskoho str., 6, 2nd floor). “An eye for an eye makes everyone blind” – it is the philosophy and main message of non-violence of Ms. Mahatma Gandhi, the prominent leader of the Indian independence movement and a pioneer of the non-violence concept famous throughout the contemporary world. On 15 June, 2007, UN General Assembly adopted the resolution, which established the commemoration of the International Non-Violence Day on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. The resolution reaffirms "the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence" and the desire "to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence". EEDI organizes this event for the third year. Last October 300 people watched two documentary films about Mahatma Gandhi’s life and work. EEDI is a non-governmental non-profit international think tank operating in The International Organization for Migration kindly asks its partners, colleagues and associates to share this information with all interested parties and participate in the event.
