THE IOM ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE COMPETITION “SUPPORT DIVERSITY”!
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Ukraine and Diversity Initiative notified the winners of the call for proposals “Support Diversity”. The main goal of the competition is to support innovative projects from NGOs that reach out to and support ethnic groups of visible minorities in Ukraine. The call for proposals is one of the components of the project “Promoting Values of Multiculturalism in Living Library Events” which was launched in March, 2010, and is implemented by the IOM Mission in Ukraine in cooperation with the State Committee on Nationalities and Religions of Ukraine and the East European Development Institute.
The IOM Mission in Ukraine and Diversity Initiative received project proposals from 17 Ukrainian and international NGOs registered in Ukraine. All the projects are aimed at preventing xenophobia and racism and promoting tolerant attitudes towards other nations and cultures.
The winners of the “Support Diversity” competition are:
1) The Crimean Independent Centre of Political Researchers and Journalists (CCIPRJ) with the project “The Group of the Minorities Rights Support” (to provide free informational and legal help to representatives of visible minorities who live in Crimea);
2) Odessa Regional Charity Foundation “Future Without AIDS” (FWA) with the project “Medical Consultation on HIV, tuberculosis and drug addiction for Odessa’s Vietnamese Community” (to build the capacity of the Vietnamese Community in Odessa and educate on topics related to HIV/AIDS/TB and drug addiction);
3) YouthCentreForum, VinnytsiaOblastYouthNGO (YCF) withtheproject “InternationalStudentAdjustmenttoUkrainianCulture” (toprovideinformationfor international studentsonhowtoreduceconflictsituationsand to promote tolerantattitudestoforeignersinVinnytsia);
4) PavlogradCityWelfareFund “GORENIE” (“BURNING”) withtheproject“Overcoming the Problems of Social Integration for Children of Ethnic Minorities/ International Migrants in Pavlograd and the Pavlograd Area” (to promote the integration of children of ethnic minorities/international migrants into the local school system);
5) The Centre for Modern Information Techniques and Visual Arts with the project “Ukraine – Diversity of Cultures” (to draw the attention of Ukrainian youth, through documentary films, to issues associated with human rights, in particular through the special project Docudays UA, which is specifically concerned with xenophobia and racial intolerance).
